Places like San Diego, Newport Beach and all of Hawaii definitely come to mind, but did you know that Indiana is actually home to one of the best warm climate cities in all of the United States? It’s true; in fact, you don’t need an ocean to have beaches, and you don’t even necessarily need beaches to enjoy the outdoors (although they are nice – and this city has, in fact, beaches). Michigan City-LaPorte is a small lakeside town in Indiana that comes alive in the warmer months when throngs of visitors arrive to enjoy the beauty of Lake Michigan in a beautiful Midwestern beach town. Come see why Michigan City-LaPorte is one of the best hot towns in Indiana; you will love every moment.

Lake Michigan has an impressive 1,638 miles of shoreline, but only 45 miles belongs to Indiana. Michigan City-LaPorte is one of Indiana’s coolest year-round destinations, but there’s something about the warmer months that bring out the best.
There’s so much to do in this small town that you’ll definitely need to stay a few days (or longer!) to try and experience it all.
With the lake there are all the fun water activities to do like beach, sailing, fishing, and more. Some areas allow you to camp right on the beach, and the incredible Indiana Dunes National Park is just a stone’s throw from Michigan City-LaPorte.
In the spring and summer, when the days are warm and the nights short, you’ll find there’s always something going on in Michigan City-LaPorte. Festivals, concerts, events, you name it – you’ll find fun and engaging things to do galore, whether you’re here solo or with the family.
While you’re here, be sure to add specific things to your to-do list, like visiting the zoo and the art center. If you’re a risk-taker, you might enjoy the Blue Chip Casino (and a stay at the adjacent hotel). Casinos not your thing? No worries – the shops, galleries and restaurants should be. Find yourself a cute local Airbnb or B&B and stay as long as you want. You will never be bored.
