My Favorite Airbnb: A Downtown Boston Loft With Incredible Natural Light

Ten years ago I visited Boston with my family for the very first time. I fell in love with the charm of the city – the history, great restaurants, and how it felt somehow intimate, yet still had all the perks of a big city. I’ve wanted to go back to Boston ever since and this year I finally made it my mission.

My partner and I decided to do a little fall weekend together…somewhere within driving distance of New York City— and so my opportunity to finally return to Boston had arrived. We had planned to stay two nights, just enough time to explore part of the city and relax a bit. Looking for something a little cozier than a hotel, I started my search on Airbnb. After researching various apartments and other rentals just outside of town, I landed on a spacious downtown loft located minutes from Boston TownshipAmerica’s oldest public park since 1634.

It was about a four hour drive from New York. After parking in a nearby public parking lot, the loft was easy to find and the elevator made transporting our luggage a breeze. My first impression upon opening the door: wow, look at that lighting. This beautiful, bright loft had lots of windows that let in incredible natural light throughout the day, but especially in the morning. It had a completely open layout – connecting the dining room, living room and kitchen – which made it much larger than I expected. This unit was immaculate; modern with concrete floors, high ceilings and colorful decor accents, and there was more than enough space for two.

The room was clean and bright.

The bedroom was hidden behind the attic. It had a comfortable queen size bed, full length mirror and plenty of closet space for two over-packers who seemed to forget we were only staying for a weekend. We didn’t have time to use the kitchen, which was fully equipped with a stove, oven, microwave, dishwasher, basic crockery and silverware, a kettle and a filter coffee maker. However, we really appreciated the bar stools in the kitchen, where we sat to sip our coffee and admire the morning sunlight that filled the entire space.

Exploring some of the city’s history was definitely on my itinerary and luckily this Airbnb was only a four minute walk from the start of the Freedom Trail. I walked through Granary Burying Ground, where Samuel Adams, John Hancock, Paul Revere, and family members of Benjamin Franklin are buried. My walk through Boston Common also included stops at the Old Corner Bookstore, the oldest commercial building downtown, and the Old South Meeting House, home to historic meetings like the tea tax debates.

A couple Boston friends told me I just had to stop by the town’s beloved Tatte Bakery. The loft is about a 10 minute walk from the Parisian style bakery, so we stopped in for a delicious cappuccino and (too much) desserts. Our Airbnb was a short Uber from Newbury Street, where I spent an afternoon shopping; the seaport, where there are countless amazing restaurants to choose from, such as Lola 42; and the North End, where we visited the The Paul Revere House and ate. After all that exploring, we managed to save some time to relax on the comfy L-shaped sofa and watch some romantic comedies on the 55-inch HDTV (with Disney+, Hulu, and Netflix to choose from).

Although it’s a great space for two, this Airbnb can accommodate up to four people, thanks to its sofa bed and spacious layout. In one short weekend, I remembered why I had been looking forward to returning to Boston all these years. The convenient location and sleek design of this Airbnb made it the perfect place for a New England Weekend Getaway.
