Rome woman, 22, killed in crash involving tractor trailer

A 22-year-old woman from Rome has been identified as the victim of a fatal tractor-trailer accident that occurred on State Route 8 in Chenango County.

New York State Police said just before 11 a.m. Monday, Jasmine R. Morrison was a passenger in a pickup truck traveling south on Route 8 that struck the back of a tractor-trailer attempting to leave Route 8, on Route 25 in the city of Columbus. Morrison was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

The driver of the van, Tyler Stewart, 24, of Lee Center, had to be airlifted off the scene. Soldiers said Stewart’s injuries were serious but did not believe they were life-threatening.

The tractor-trailer operator is from Sherburne, NY, and reported no injuries, the soldiers said.

The accident remains under investigation.
