Seoul has been ranked the fourth most searched travel destination on Airbnb over the past year.

After Bangkok, Sydney and Malaga, Seoul landed fourth on the list of places travelers searched for on the travel and booking app, according to Airbnb on November 30.

“The following locations have become the top trending global destinations that have captured the attention of travelers,” Airbnb wrote during the destinations showcase.

Airbnb compiled the data based on searches conducted on its app between the first and third quarters of this year. Airbnb has analyzed that the spike in interest in Korea is mainly due to the rise in popularity of Korean culture.

Airbnb is running various campaigns to keep up with the strong interest in Seoul as a travel destination. During the winter update of the application last November, a hanok (Korean traditional house) has been added to the accommodation category. The company also cooperated with the Seoul Tourism Board in a campaign to promote hanok experiences.

Airbnb is a travel and lodging destination information app that matches hosts to travelers one-on-one. It currently has over 4 million hosts and has hosted 1 billion guests in almost every country in the world, according to the company.
