Slash’s 2022 North American tour with Myles Kennedy and the Conspirators kicked off last night at the Roseland Theater in Portland, Ore.

Last night’s show featured excerpts from Slash’s four albums with Kennedy and the Conspirators as well as his 2010 self-titled debut solo album, which featured Kennedy and a slew of other singers. The band played four songs from their new album, 4including the singles “The River Is Rising”, “Fill My World” and “Call Off the Dogs” as well as the unreleased song “Whatever Gets You By”.
The guitarist also unearthed the song “Speed Parade” by Slash’s Snakepit and “Always on the Run” by Lenny Kravitz, which he co-wrote and played guitar on. Slash and Kennedy’s cover of Elton John’s “Rocket Man” also made its live debut.
Slash thanked the crowd for the successful kick off to the tour on Twitter, writing, “Thank you, Portland! Killer crowd for bringing us our first show of the River Is Rising US Tour. Cheers!”
Slash will be on the road until the end of March to support 4, which arrives on Friday. “As the record comes out, I’ll start sprinkling more songs from the new record,” he told UCR. “At the end of the tour, we will have played all the songs on the record.”
Although last night marked the live debut of several songs off 4Slash and his bandmates should have felt comfortable playing them, as they recorded the entire album live in Nashville’s RCA Studio A for 10 days, with all five band members battling COVID in the process.
“The session itself was awesome and one of the most fun times I’ve had in the studio in my career, actually,” Slash told UCR. “And then the other aspect was kind of a group bond, because we kind of had to go through this whole COVID thing together while quarantining in Nashville in an Airbnb. But, you know, at the end of the day , the record has been made, and no one is worse for attrition.”
