Teenagers charged with killing Memphis pastor could be moved to adult court

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Two 15-year-old boys charged with the murder of Memphis pastor Autura Eason-Williams will learn later this month if they will be tried as adults

On Monday morning, the teenagers faced a hearing in juvenile court. The hearing was adjourned until October 24, when the judge said it would be decided whether the two men would be moved to adult court.

If so, this transfer would take place in November.

Eason-Williams was shot in a carjacking in the driveway of her Whitehaven home on July 18. Two minors and an adult were arrested and charged.

The pastor’s family is divided over whether the boys, both 15, should be tried as adults. Her husband is in favor of it, but some of her children have said that it is not what their mother would have wanted.

The judge postponed last month’s hearing to today to allow the teenagers to undergo a psychiatric evaluation. The judge said she also wanted to review the teens’ backgrounds, including school records. More time was given to prosecutors to share police body camera video with the defense.
