An opportunity to camp under the Hawaiian stars is available on Airbnb for $70 a night. Try not to worry about the volcano a dozen kilometers away.

The glamping tent in Mountain View village is available on Airbnb and Glamping CenterCNBC reported . The Airbnb is hosted by Kehau Hall, 28, who has lived in the state most of his life.

The tent is in the Glenwood area of Mountain View, about 20 miles from Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. There are two active volcanoes in the park, creating an air of unpredictability around anyone’s stay.

Hall was inspired to create the rental after seeing a photo of a glamping tent in a magazine. His tent, created in 2014, includes a kitchen, an outdoor shower and a king-size mattress.

Hall said she spent less than $300 to create the tent, plus about $8,000 for the amenities on the list. She makes a decent profit from it, generating $28,000 in revenue a year, and said she puts in 10-15 hours of work a week on the site.

“I wanted to use the land for good, where other people could come and enjoy it and really immerse themselves in nature,” Hall said of the property, on 90 acres of land that has been passed down to his family since. generations.

The listing averages three bookings per week, and the average stay is between two and four nights. Hall has been going through tough times during the pandemic, not receiving any reservations for around six months as visitors face a 14-day quarantine mandate.

Activity resumed at the start of the year. Hall has benefited from the expansion of remote work across the country, booking stints that have lasted up to a month.

Hall isn’t done with her glamping experience yet: She plans to open three more tents across the state over the next two to three years.
