These are videos of haunted places in Iowa
Chances are you like Halloween. It’s a fun time of year. Here in Iowa, it really is the fall epidemic. It’s dark earlier, it’s colder and the leaves are all (most often) changed by Halloween. To add a little more “spook” to the air, I wanted to share videos of Iowa’s most haunted attractions. Some are open to the public. Others that you might only see here. Let’s get started!
Villisca’s ax murder house
A story that made national headlines, the horrific ax murders at Villisca happened on the evening of June 9, 1912 and early the next morning, June 10, 1912. They happened, as the name says. indicates, in the town of Villisca, Iowa. A total of eight victims were killed during this period. Horrifically enough, that includes six children. All of the dead had serious head wounds from an ax. What is almost as bad, the killer got away with it. No one has ever been convicted of these heinous murders. Want to look inside the house?
A more recent addition to this list, Edinburgh Manor was built between 1910 and 1911 and was designed to house the incurably insane, the poor and the elderly. Edinburgh Manor, also known simply as The Manor, was in operation until November 2010. Again, its history is not as old as that of many other haunted places in Iowa. The house has seen more 150 deaths on the spot and therefore it’s probably quite haunted.
Check out some videos of the interior and exterior of the building. Note that the small advertiser / MC for the first video is quite valuable.
So this one is a bit outside of left field. It’s not that old schools can’t be haunted, rather it’s not on any official “Haunted Iowa” list, but I think it’s worth it. According to a Reddit thread, the school was opened in 1908 and was in use until 2001, when it was phased out in favor of a more recent facility. Think about the whole story. All the children who went through this school. All teachers, professors and administrators.
Here are some haunted places in Iowa, inside and out! Have a safe and happy Halloween!
