THE STORY

Since they started dating in college in 2013, the beach has been a key part of Danielle Canady and Joel Vastl’s love affair. Danielle grew up in New Jersey and for years she would wake Joel at dawn to watch the sunrise and walk along the New Jersey coast whenever they visited her parents’ house there. . “Finally, on one of those walks, I had a ring with me,” said Joel, who asked the question on July 4, 2019.

The couple, who live in Windham, New Hampshire, had planned to tie the knot at the Shining Tides harborfront estate in Mattapoisett in August 2020. When the pandemic forced them to cancel that date, they decided not to get married. marry rather than reduce so that they could celebrate with their 73 relatives. “It was really important for us to have everyone there, and to do it [in a way that was] safe and sound and not with a million restrictions, ”explains the bride.

So when the big day arrived on July 9, 2021, it was just luck that the festivities were nearly interrupted by Tropical Storm Elsa. “It rained all day,” recalls Joel. But on the first glance, which was moved inside, the sun began to break through. By the time the first dance took place, the tide had turned. “The water was perfectly calm,” recalls Danielle. “The sunset was like cotton candy.”

A seaside setting was a must for the bride and groom, but it had to be “laid back and not super glam,” Danielle says. Brilliant tides do the trick. “This place is like a blank canvas,” she adds.
