Washington has its fair share of architecturally significant homes from Arthur Erickson to historic masterpieces of the Victorian era. That being said, it is quite rare that you can rent these homes. So far, because there is a handcrafted James Hubbell house tucked away on Orcas Island.

Who is James hubbell? He is a renowned architect and artist from New York who is known for creating organic homes. In some popular terms today, the houses could be aptly described as “hobbit houses” and “cottage kernels”. But these homes are made to be lived in and that is why this Airbnb is truly such a gem.

The owners describe the house as a “jewelry box” and when you see the assortment of eye-catching details, you will probably agree.

Guests will find stained glass windows, metal sculptures, ceramic mosaics, and mixed artwork scattered throughout the home. You’ll also find unique architectural features like an elevated bedroom platform, spiral staircase, and stone-walled patio that also hides a hot tub.

The house can technically accommodate four people but only has one bedroom, so it can be best experienced with your SO or your best friends.

Although there is wifi, this house seems like the perfect place to reconnect with nature. After all, you have a view of the surrounding water and forest as well as access to the private beach. In addition, you are on Orcas Island, so you can also visit the natural sites on the island like Moran State Park.
