Three-time Indianapolis 500 winner Bobby Unser dies at 87

Bobby Unser, a three-time Indianapolis 500 winner and one of the only pair of brothers to win “The Greatest Racing Show” has passed away. He was 87 years old. He died Sunday at his home in Albuquerque of natural causes, the Indianapolis Speedway reported on Monday. Unser won the Indy 500 in 1968, 1975 and 1981. His younger brother, Al, is one of only three four-time Indy 500 winners in racing history. Al Unser won the race in 1970, 1971, 1978 and 1987. The Unser family tradition extends to Al Unser son, Al Unser Jr., who won the Indy 500 in 1992 and 1994. He was one of 10 pilots to win the Indy 500 at least three times, and Mr. Unser and Rick mears are the only drivers to win the 500 in three different decades. Unser was one of six members of the Unser family to compete in the Indianapolis 500. After his flying career, Mr. Unser switched to broadcasting and won an Emmy Award on the broadcast team at ABC Sports for “Outstanding Live Sports Special” for their 1989 Indianapolis 500 cover. He is survived by his wife, Lisa; son Bobby jr. and Robby; and girls Cindy and I laugh.

Cavs to sign Varejão after getting NBA exception

Center Anderson Varejão is expected to sign with the Cavaliers for the remainder of the season after the NBA granted the team an exception for roster difficulties. Varejão, who spent 12 seasons with Cleveland before being traded in 2016, could join the squad in the coming days. Police made her first arrest as she worked with Manchester United to identify fans involved in violence at Old Trafford during protests which forced the game against Liverpool to be postponed. Unrest against United owners on Sunday saw discarded glass bottles injuring six police officers, one with a fractured orbit and another wounded in the face. Protesters were renewing their demands that the Glazer owning family sell United after being enraged by the ill-fated attempt two weeks ago to lead the club into a failed European Super League. United could face sanctions from the English Football Association and the Premier League for the unrest … The English Football Association has opened an investigation into the Super League rebellion and has asked for evidence from the six English clubs involved in the breakaway which could lead to penalties. Paris Saint-Germain will decide late to play or not Kylian Mbappé against Manchester City in the Champions League semi-final second leg, coach Mauricio Pochettino noted. The French striker missed the 2-1 victory over Lens in the French league on Saturday due to a calf injury.
