Her music video is just the latest in a recent trend from TikTokers embrace financial transparency on the app.

In a video, a business owner detailed how she pays all of her employees, including herself. the same salary. In another, a Google employee shared how he went from a 1.2 GPA to college earn $344,000 per year.

Glidewell’s financial situation, she explained, stemmed in large part from Airbnb’s arbitrage properties.

Typically, Airbnb hosts own the properties they rent out through the vacation app. However, Airbnb arbitration is the process of renting a property and sublet it to Airbnb travelers.

The process can be difficult to set up due to legal restrictions and issues with landlords, but, as Glidewell shared, it can also be very cost effective.

In her clip, Glidewell explained how she made $50,000 at her day job in 2019. Although people encouraged her to save up for a new car, she managed to set aside $20,000 to invest in her idea. business instead.

She used that money to start renting and furnishing four different properties, which she then listed on Airbnb. Less than three years later, she is making between $7,000 and $15,000 in profit per month.

“If I had listened to everyone,” she said. “I would have a two and a half year old vehicle, I would still be at a nine to five. … All I’m saying is stop trading what you really want for what you want now.

The business model has clearly transformed Glidewell’s financial situation – KarWells’ TikTok bio says:Airbnb has changed our lives— but it also left TikTokers with plenty of questions. Specifically, commentators wanted to know how and under what circumstances arbitration is legal.

There are local and state laws that prohibit subletting, as well as certain places where pricing can make it difficult.

In addition, many leases prohibit rental arbitrage. As Glidewell explained in the comments to the video, she had to call and negotiate directly with the owners in order to find a OK where she could re-let her tenancy.

As with many recent financial stories on the app, TikTokers praised Glidewell for his insight.

“Saving 40% of your salary is very impressive! Congratulations,” wrote one user.

“Such a great example of real investment,” added another.
