Wanderlust 2022: Indians preferred Kerala to Goa; Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand among top scenic spots, Airbnb data reveals

After almost two years of confinement and restrictions, people were more than ready to come out and be part of a crowd, for a change. And 2022 was pretty much that, as many Indians set out to travel the world and create new memories.

So what was on the minds of the Indians? London, Paris, Dubai and Toronto. According to a study published by another accommodation aggregator, Airbnb, there was an increase of more than 50% in the total number of nights booked in India in the third quarter of 2022, compared to the third quarter of 2019.

The report also revealed that the Indians were not only exploring the popular beaches but also climbing the hills in Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and the North Eastern region. According to an Airbnb study reported by
Economic times, hospitalityIndians searched prominently for the United States, United Kingdom, but Dubai, Paris, Toronto and New York topped the list of cities searched by Indians this year.

The Airbnb report also revealed that this year Indians preferred the pristine beaches of Kerala, which topped the list of the most popular beach destinations among travelers to India in 2022.

Airbnb has seen a more than 375% increase in searches for Kerala by Indians this year, while Goa has seen a 275% increase in searches. The data further revealed that Indian travelers also preferred Pondicherry, which saw a more than 200% increase in searches.

As popular places around the world continued to be a hot search for Indians on Airbnb, the brand that offers staycations saw a phenomenal increase of over 1250% in searches for staycations in Turkey, an increase of over 750 % of searches for places to stay. stay in Norway and more than 625% increase in searches for Portugal by Indians.

Regarding the search for Indians who were not seeking a long stay, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Delhi, Goa, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Pondicherry, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Rajasthan continued to receive a high search volume on Airbnb. The study also showed a huge increase in the number of Indians who want to explore the beautiful landscapes and places in the North Eastern region of India. The Airbnb report recorded an increase of over 450% in searches for staycations in Meghalaya, a spike of over 400% for Assam and an increase of over 300% in searches by Indians for Nagaland this year.
