And especially with airlines facing soaring fares and unprecedented delays, a luxury train ride can be the perfect way to reach your destination (and enjoy the ride while you’re there). But what is the most luxurious train ride in America? It’s up for debate.

In fact, Amtrak offers scenic and luxurious train travel to the best places in the United States, especially if you’re looking for vacation deals. But here are a few other companies that, based on reviews, are also taking train travel to the next level.

rocky mountaineer

Earning 4.5 stars on TripAdvisor, the Rocky Mountaineer has four train routes, including one that departs from Salt Lake City, Denver or Las Vegas – via Moab, Utah and Red Rock – with stops in Glenwood Springs, Colorado and Denver. Distinctive features of the ride include glass-domed carriages to enjoy the breathtaking views in panoramic beauty, a deluxe dining experience and, for those booking the Silver Leaf Plus package, an outdoor observation deck and a lounge car for passengers.

Prices range from around $1,400 per person for a two-day/one-night trip to nearly $2,000 for a four-night trip. You can also add an aerial adventure to your trip, which would cost over $3,000 in total per person.

Napa Valley Wine Train

Combine the best of Napa Valley wine tours with the luxury of a trip on a historic train. The company offers several options, including overnight stays in the area and extended wine tasting tours.

The Vista Dome is considered the company’s “most scenic wagon” according to Napa Valley Wine Train. A day trip includes a multi-course gourmet meal and a welcome glass of sparkling wine from the region. Tours start at $350 for a tour with lunch and $420 for a tour with dinner, with prices higher on weekends and other peak times.

Strasbourg railway line

The east coast also offers exciting scenic rail journeys. Begin your journey in Strasbourg, Pennsylvania (known as “Train Town USA”), with a round-trip tour of Lancaster County while reveling in historic luxury.
