If you and your kids or grandkids love water parks, you probably know the Dells of Wisconsin.
Dells of Wisconsin, Wisconsin, is called “The Water Park Capital of the World!” Amazingly, with the combination of various indoor and outdoor water parks, the area is home to over 200 water slides using over 16 million gallons of water, according to the Wisconsin Dells Visitor & Convention Bureau.
This large number of water parks – along with hotels, restaurants, amusement parks and other attractions such as golf courses and go-kart tracks – helps explain why more than 4 million people visit Wisconsin Dells. every year, according to the City of Wisconsin Dells.
If you are planning a trip, the Wisconsin Dells Visitor & Convention Bureau announced a number of new slides and other attractions will open this year. Keep reading to see what visitors can expect.
Slides
Spinning Water Slide at Mt. Olympus Water and Theme Park
Mt. Olympus Water & Theme Park Resort will open Medusa’s Slidewheel this summer. Billed as the first rotating waterslide in the United States, the indoor Medusa Slidewheel is placed on a horizontal axis like a Ferris wheel to spin guests as they slide through it.
Incidentally, Medusa’s Slidewheel is the centerpiece of the resort’s expanded indoor water park. The 22,500 square foot addition is also expected to feature a splash zone for children, interactive water features and a swimming area.
Duel of slides at the Wilderness Resort
Wilderness Resort’s Wild West Indoor Water Park plans to open two new “dueling” slides this fall. One is a two-lane tube slide while the other is a head-first two-lane slide. Each of them will feature numerous “meeting points” where runners can see their competitor during the race.
Rainbow Stripes at Chula Vista Water Park
Chula Vista Resort plans to open a unique waterslide in its indoor water park. The waterslide will feature a multicolored rainbow-striped light effect to create “dazzling visual movement inside the otherwise dark channel.”
Family fun
Yeti Yard Next Level Adventure Park
Scheduled to open in late summer, the Yeti Yard Next Level Adventure Park in downtown Wisconsin Dells will feature the Himalayan Speedway, which features a 640-foot elevated race track for karts. The attraction will also include an 18-hole mini-golf course.
Tom Foolerys Adventure Park
Tom Foolerys Adventure Park indoor theme park at Kalahari Resorts & Conventions has added an ax throwing area for adults. New kid-friendly attractions include mini-bowling and a black-light mini-golf course.
Restaurants and meeting place
Elm Street Square
A new gathering place in downtown Wisconsin Dells will open in late summer. The 35,000 square foot Elm Street Plaza will include an indoor stage and lighting and sound equipment for nighttime entertainment. The plaza, which will also feature interactive water features including fountains and buried geysers, will host farmers’ markets and other events during the warmer months.
Latte Stone Brewing Co. Nano Brewery
The Latte Stone Brewing Co., a small-batch nano brewery housed in a converted mansion in downtown Wisconsin Dells, will feature a tasting room-style bar serving craft beers, local craft beers, and local and international wines. as well as a tapas menu. Visitors can sit outside in a large, pet-friendly beer garden during the summer months.
Norwegian themed Koselig garden
Koselig Garden, a restaurant with banquet hall at the Norwegian-inspired event center Vennebu Hill, will feature a full bar and serve Norwegian and Wisconsin dishes. Koselig, which means “cozy garden” in Norwegian, offers stunning views of the Wisconsin River and the Baraboo Cliffs.
