During the Cold War, the United States ordered a number of utterly massive underground silos that would house Atlas missiles ready to be fired and wipe out parts of the Earth in seconds.

The projectiles no longer exist as they have since been disabled, and what stands today at these sites are the bones of these massive facilities. Surprisingly, some people bought them and turned them into living spaces.

For $346 a night, there’s an authentic underground missile bunker in Roswell, NM that you can rent through Airbnb called the Genuine Cold War Relic Atlas F Missile Silo / Bunker.

Everything is 186 feet underground and has been completely renovated into a house. However, it still contains many of the elements you’d expect to see from that period, such as sets of winding stairs painted an old vermilion red color and empty tunnels that look quite liminal.

This all leads to the “launch control center” where the apartment stay is located.

In the living room there are two single beds as well as a few air mattresses, although the listing says it is only suitable for two people.

There is also a fully equipped kitchen decorated with all manner of memorabilia from the site.

Previous guests say that host Gary knows his property very well, which makes for quite an immersive experience.
