Sisters are essentially built-in best friends, and there’s no better way to further strengthen that bond than with a much-needed girls getaway just you two. Plus, whether you prefer an action-packed city break or a laid-back beach vacation (don’t forget that FPS!) – or something else entirely – there’s a destination for every dynamic duo.

Sure, it’s a long-haul flight from the US, but its varied landscapes, which range from pink lakes (read: an Instagram dream come true) to rugged mountains, are well worth the trip. Must-haves include hiking in Tongariro National Park (New Zealand’s oldest national park, which happens to be a UNESCO World Heritage Site), boating in Queenstown and whale watching in Auckland. Be sure to make time to visit Grassmere Lake (the aforementioned pink-hued body of water) or view the purple and pink lupine flowers blooming near Lake Tekapo.

Machu Picchu is located nearly 7,800 feet above sea level in the Andes. This centuries-old site, known as the Lost City of the Incas, is a must-see, especially for archeology enthusiasts: with its more than 150 buildings and breathtaking agricultural terraces, visit Machu Picchu, it’s like stepping back in time.

Depending on how much time you have and how adventurous you are, there are several ways you can get to Macchu Picchu. The most popular route, on foot, is the Inca Trail, which usually takes four days to walk. If you are not traveling in a group, we recommend that you sign up for a guided hike (Airbnb has a few options). Alternatively, take the PeruRail or IncaRail from Cusco: just be sure to buy your tickets in advance.

Once you are able to catch your breath, literally and figuratively, head to the nearby town of Aguas Calientes. Here you and your sister can snap photos of the colorful buildings, grab a souvenir at the Mercado Artesanal, enjoy a bath in one of the thermal baths, and grab a bite to eat at one of the many restaurants.

Tremendous Tokyo has a 263 Michelin stars— the most of any other city in the world. You and your sister can explore Japan’s bustling capital one bite at a time.
