’80s-themed Airbnb in T-Town is now open with bespoke Star Wars Pac-Man and Jawa arcade – FOX23 News

TULSA, Okla. – A totally awesome brand new Airbnb in Tulsa just opened downtown. Lila Halliwell and her husband, Jonathon Halliwell, are the owners and creators of the retro ’80s vacation rental, “Back to the Bueller.”

The three-bedroom, one-bathroom property’s name was inspired by Jonathon’s two favorite movies of the ’80s, “Back to the Future” and “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off.”

It took the couple about a year to prep the place with the coolest vibe ever.

“We visited thrift stores in Colorado, Texas and all over Oklahoma, as well as items purchased on eBay,” Lila said. “There’s a standing Pac-Man machine, a life-size Star Wars Jawa, lots of records, tapes and a Calvin & Hobbes mural, a chewing-gum machine, neon lights and a pink hoverboard, but this is not It’s just a prop. It’s not like it flies or anything, unfortunately.

The “Back to the Bueller”, is conveniently located about half a mile from the Tulsa Fairgrounds and one mile from Route 66.

This tubular vacation rental is Halliwell’s eighth Airbnb in downtown Tulsa to date.

“We have a 70s themed one called “This house from the 70s”an adobe and southwestern-themed on Brooksidea couple close Utica Square they are a bit top of the linebut stay affordableand we’ll have a Route 66 themed double decker near 3rd and Utica in the next few months, and one near downtown called “Keeping Tulsa Weird” which is located in historic Owen Park. It gets hard to keep up,” Lila said.

Lila is from Missouri and Jonathon is from London.

“We both lived in many cities. I’ve traveled the world with Disney on Ice and my husband has traveled the world with various companies,” Lila said. “We moved back to Tulsa where his parents live.”

Jonathon had a corporate role in Boston, but both chose to live in Tulsa because they thought it was a great place to raise their two children.

Creating Airbnbs is a way for this couple to invite others to visit and experience T-Town for themselves.

“The inspiration for all of our Airbnbs has been more about meeting new people from all over the country, showing them that Tulsa has fun things to do,” Lila said.
