Where to eat and drink in Krakow’s Old Town

We spent two nights in Krakow and enjoyed a delicious dinner and drinks each evening. This isn’t an exhaustive guide to Krakow food and drink, but you can’t go wrong at any of these places.

Where to eat in Krakow’s Old Town

We stole it the first night. It was the first time in Krakow for both of us and neither of us was sure what to expect. Many restaurants were full…several Slawkowska Street turned us down when we asked for a table. But we finally got a table (due to a no-show) at Farina.

At Farina, the emphasis is on fresh fish and we were not disappointed with our entrees: halibut for my friend and sea bass for me. We had potatoes and gnocchi on the side and the fresh bread was delicious.

Our second night we ate at Cyrano de Bergerac, a French restaurant in a brick-lined, candlelit cellar.

The atmosphere in the restaurant was pretty cool and I had delicious scallops and veal (my friend had turbot and liked it too). The dessert was also a treat: crème brûlée with bourbon vanilla and lovely profiterole ice cream and berries.

Where to drink in Krakow’s Old Town

We had cocktails each evening and I can recommend two places. The first is called Budda Bar and is located near St. Mary’s Basilica.

The staff were lovely here and the mojitos are all great…my recommendation is the large raspberry mojito which is $10 (rather high) but huge (easily the size of two regular cocktails).

The gem we found was called Mr. Black.

This cocktail bar has a great drinks menu (like the Mai Tai, my favorite and made to perfection, or a Paper Plane) and Jakub, one of the best bartenders I’ve had the pleasure of chatting with. The cozy atmosphere is amazing, every drink is great (pace yourself) and you’ll thank me for visiting this place.

These drinks lasted over two nights and many, many hours – I don’t get drunk out of policy…
Jakub is the best

CONCLUSION

Krakow is full of excellent restaurants and bars – this is just four of them. But all four I highly recommend and can’t wait to go back.
