A West Michigan couple are about to build a home, but it’s not like any home you’ve ever seen before. This house will be built entirely from old used tires.

Clayton Brown and Kimberly Sullivan purchased about 23 acres of land in southwestern Michigan and soon discovered there was a “gigantic mountain” of used tires on the property, as part of it was once a broken.

Finding a Solution

Knowing that they had to somehow get rid of the old tires, the couple started looking for solutions. Clayton tells WXMI-TV that recycling them was not an option as they could only dispose of four tires per year. Kimberly noted that the cost of removing all the tires would be astronomical.

A couple almost missed a golden opportunity

Clayton and Kimberly say they almost rejected an Airbnb email as spam. The company sent out a massive direct mail for a competition to build a home with an original design, funded entirely by Airbnb through what it calls an “OMG fund”.

Kimberly tells the TV station that it took a while before the idea hit her.

“Oh, that’s how we can use these tires,” she thought to herself. “We can build a giant tire-shaped house using the tires.”

Clayton notes that using tires to build houses is a common practice in the desert.

The couple are one of 10 recipients of $100,000 that will be used to build the unique homes.

Historic $18M Randall’s Point Walloon Lake Farm

Currently offered for 18 million dollars, making it one of the most expensive properties in the state, the resort features four cabins. Three of the cabins were built in the 1920s and the main log house was built in the 1970s. The original boathouse and barn remain. The farm was founded by Bo Randall who was the founder of Knives made by Randall and a good friend of Ernest Hemingway who frequented the property for hunting. With over 5700 square feet of living space among the cabins, the resort is perfect for large families. A mix of modern and timeless history, this is truly a slice of Michigan history.
