Several B.C. cities named Airbnb’s most popular and profitable destinations

Vancouver, Whistler, and several other cities in British Columbia lead all of Canada when it comes to the best places to stay and make money with Airbnb.

While many people use Airbnb as a place to relax while on vacation, many also use Airbnb for remote work while traveling.

Vancouver, Surrey, Whistler, Kelowna, Nanaimo and Victoria all earned a spot in a recent Airbnb press release which looked at a variety of metrics focused on the best locations in Canada and the United States.

Highest Paying Cities for Long-Term Stays

When it comes to how much money you can make with an Airbnb listing, Vancouver and Whistler are the top two Canadian cities, followed by Mont-Tremblant, Toronto, and Kitchener.

Airbnb suggests lodging revenue is helping support families across Canada due to the rising cost of living.

Between the first quarter of 2021 and the first quarter of 2022, “hosts in Canada earned more than $280 million from long-term stays.”

The best equipped cities

When it comes to cities best equipped for long-term stays, Toronto and Vancouver lead all Canadian cities. Victoria also made the list, after Edmonton and Gatineau.

Best-equipped essentially refers to cities with at least 1,000 active listings in Q1 2022.

The most hospitable

In trying to determine which cities were the most hospitable, Airbnb looked at which places had the highest percentages of five-star reviews for long-term stays.

Halifax (92.6%) and Winnipeg (87.7%) led the pack, followed by Nanaimo (87.1%), Surrey (86.1%) and Kelowna (86.1%).

The most affordable

Here are the five most affordable Airbnb locations in Canada:

  • Trois-Rivières, Quebec (US$35.6 per night)
  • Medicine Hat, Alberta (US$41.3 per night)
  • Gatineau, Quebec (US$44.5 per night)
  • Thorold, Ontario ($46.9 per night)
  • Quebec, Quebec ($48 USD per night)

The most popular

Although no city in British Columbia has reached the most affordable level, Vancouver and Victoria are among the top five Airbnb destinations. Other Canadian cities in the top five were Toronto, Montreal and Calgary.
