Spend the night in Hobbiton thanks to Airbnb
The Shire might just be the most beautiful and peaceful place in all of literature. The New Zealand filming location that replaced this quiet patch of Middle-earth is also stunning. It has been open to tourists for years but now for the first time you can spend the night in Hobbiton. Three lucky people will be able to book the experience via Airbnb. For just NZ$10 (about US$6) a night, you get a two-bedroom house in the Shire. Bring your three favorite friends and family members or a few friendly cousins (once retired) and your gardener! The two-night stays, which will take place in March 2023, will go on sale on December 14, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. NZ time.

The property began as a sheep farm in Waikato, New Zealand. It offers this unique experience to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the first Hobbit movie. Guests will have access to a desk if they want to record their own adventures and a book nook if they prefer to curl up with a good long trilogy. The nearby Green Dragon Inn pours real Southfarthing Beer and cider. Remember it does not come in pints. There are also many hearty meals since Hobbits love to eat. The set is entirely curated by Brian Massey, who worked on both the the Lord of the Rings and Hobbit trilogies.
Airbnb has offered other unique experiences, including stays at the Sanderson sisters’ cottage in Massachusetts and Mystery Machine van in Malibu. If you’re not one of the lucky few to book this Hobbiton tour, there are others Shire fan recreations to consult. Or if you think it’s a dangerous business to leave your home, stay home and supervise instead. ambient videos from The Shire and other peaceful places in Middle-earth on YouTube.
