Vancouver Island treetop retreat tops Airbnb’s list of Canada’s Best New Hosts

This treetop destination is a great place to spend time for an unforgettable getaway.

A treehouse-style home in East Sooke has been selected as Canada’s Best New Host by Airbnb.

Treehouse hosted by Madison owner Madison Grothen said her husband, co-owner Tyler Bohn, built the house from the treetops to the core, except for the plumbing and electrical.

“We are very happy and honored to have been chosen by Airbnb,” she said. “We’ve been open just over a year and didn’t expect to be this busy, but business has been great. We were just hoping for weekends at first, so we’re really excited to be full now with a waiting list for the summer.

Described on Airbnb’s website as a “haven among the evergreens located at a magical junction between countryside, land, rainforest, and sea, this unique structure is sure to provide a stay like no other.”

According to Airbnb, long-term stays hit an all-time high in the first quarter of 2022, more than doubling in size from the same period in 2019.

Domestic travel remains strong, accounting for more than half of nights booked, and more than half of stays booked this year are for a week or more.
