Well it looks like after the weather we have this week it looks like it will be a mix of just about anything that can fall from the sky thanks march in minnesota spring should be fully effective and if you have dogs, a laundry basket could be your best friend this spring. Why? Well, to keep your dogs from attacking rabbit nests in your yard, at least until they are old enough to run away on their own.
The Minnesota Wildlife Rehabilitation Center published earlier this week why having a laundry basket and tent pegs might be a good idea for you and your dogs this spring.

It’s almost a foolish – or dog-proof – way to protect rabbits in their nests.
Before you take your dog out, go to the rabbit’s nest (you’ll know where it is because your dog or child has already found it, lol) and place the basket above the nest. Secure it with tent pegs as needed. (larger dogs will probably need more tent pegs)
Remove the basket when your dog comes inside so mom can tend to her babies.
They will leave the nest 3 weeks after hatching. At that time, you can move them to your front yard, to the other side of your fence, etc. Please do not move them to a different area – which spreads the disease.
If your dog hurts a rabbit, bring it to us – no need to call first. We are open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. every day of the year, even on public holidays.
The post encourages dog owners to consider putting a laundry basket on top of a rabbit nest to keep baby rabbits safe, for a minimum of 3 weeks, when babies can be moved off your lawn and elsewhere . out of danger.
