A Monticello bar and restaurant is closing this month

Unfortunately, another restaurant in eastern Iowa will be closing in the near future. On Tuesday May 10, the owners of The Jitney announced on Facebook that the bar is expected to close later this month. The message reads as follows:

“We would like to thank all of our customers, employees and suppliers for their support at Jitney. Unfortunately, we have decided to close the bar.

Stop by all next week for 50% off everything in stock. Don’t forget the quiz on Tuesday, May 17. Our last day of opening will be May 21.”

The Jitney, located at 126 E 1st Street in Monticello, is described on Facebook as a “Cozy yet sophisticated restaurant/bar located in beautiful Eastern Iowa.” Two Monticello natives named Erin Cox and Katie Farrowe opened the business in 2012, but in late June 2020 revealed they were looking to sell it to new owners. About a year later, the Jitney reopened under new ownership.

Jitney’s social media accounts did not give details of why they decided to close, but customers and employees seem to be disappointed by the news. facebook user Karen Brokaw wrote:
