“I got in the car and pinpointed her location using a special app. She was distressed because it was getting dark and she phoned the police, who kept her on the line. .

“I could see the light from Emily’s phone and managed to reach it, which sometimes meant wading through waist-deep water.

“The fire brigade and the ambulance service arrived very quickly – I can’t praise them highly enough.

“They were so good and so professional, we don’t pay them enough. One of the firefighters was chest deep in a marshy wasteland.

“It was very dark, very cold and very humid.

“Emily was transported on a stretcher with a suspected broken ankle, which turned out to be a serious sprain. She was checked by the ambulance service and I took her home.”
