Accelleran and RED Technologies Successfully Achieve 5G Shared Access Spectrum Interoperability

PARIS, March 23, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — Accelleran and RED Technologies have successfully completed shared access spectrum interoperability testing between the Accelleran SAS cloud-native client microservice that is part of the Accelleran dRAX™ RIC platform and the access system Spectrum (SAS) from RED Technologies in the cloud, allowing 4G/5G devices to operate seamlessly on shared spectrum.

Users/operators with a local license or lease are entitled to interference protection throughout the area of operation. SAS ensures that this protection is enforced at all times, using precise radio propagation algorithms to determine the transmit power allowed for each registered device.

Before using the shared spectrum, devices first register with the SAS and request authorization for permission to transmit.

As part of 5G-RECORDS, the transmission power is determined when creating the license or lease, thus guaranteeing a guaranteed coverage area and quality of service for the duration of the local license / lease.

Christopher LeThierrySenior R&D Manager at RED Technologies says, “This makes shared spectrum suitable for professional use, including live audio production. This functionality will also operate on the CBRS 3.5 GHz band to enable 4G/5G operation under FCC-submitted leases throughout the United States.”

Antonio GarciaProduct Management Director at Accelleran said, “We are delighted to have validated the interoperability of our SAS client running as a cloud-native microservice in dRAX™ on a fully disaggregated 5G Open RAN configuration, with the RED Technologies SAS server also running in the cloud. This interoperability builds on our previous SAS interoperability tests performed with other SAS servers in 4G and aligns well with one of our recent announcements at MWC-22 in Barcelona regarding the availability of Accelleran 5G Open RAN solutions for the US CBRS market.”
