MIAMI – In an effort to quell wild and out-of-control parties over New Year’s weekend, Airbnb is banning some reservations in the Miami area and other cities in the United States.

For holidays, they prohibit one-night bookings for customers with no positive account history or no previous bookings on the platform. They are also putting in place tighter restrictions for the same customers trying to book two- and three-night reservations, with a focus on local booking attempts.

The company said these new restrictions will complement other party prevention measures it put in place over the summer.

“Since these defenses were first tested in 2020, we estimate they have contributed to a global year-over-year decline in NYE party incident rates of approximately 56%. More Specifically in Miami, over 1,450 people were deterred by our various anti-party defenses from booking entire property listings on NYE 2021,” Airbnb said in a statement.

The company said its anti-party initiative aims to support both its hosts and their neighbors.

Airbnb operates a 24/7 Neighborhood Helpline and encourages neighbors to contact any issue with a rental so it can be resolved.
