An Airbnb owner has been left picking up the pieces of his shattered home after it was ransacked by revelers who turned an 18th birthday into a ‘riot’.

When the police arrived to try to control the party, they were attacked by the out-of-control mob who threw objects at them.

Snapchat footage of the Good Friday rally showed people drinking and dancing on Delamere Street, Levenshulme in Manchester, with ’18’ balloons in the background.

People living on the street said their ‘windows were shaking’ as the party spilled onto the street.

Residents said a few people were seen listening to music in the garden before the gathering spiraled out of control.

The owner of the ransacked house said he was “devastated”.

He spent the morning assessing the damage and putting away the nitrous oxide cartridges that were strewn on the sidewalk.

He said: “It’s just disappointing that this sort of thing happened.

“It’s a residential area. That’s not what this house is for. This is clearly stated in the terms and conditions. There were just a lot of people doing racketeering.

“I think it was a Facebook party. I am devastated.’

Among the damage was a television which had been thrown behind a bed, broken crockery thrown into the street, and the front door and fence which were both smashed.

The owner, who asked not to be named, said he arrived around 9:30 p.m. and asked the crowd to leave and go home.

He said they had agreed to end the party, but it resumed around 11:30 p.m. and continued until about 4 a.m.

A neighbor said he was ‘traumatized’ by the event and said: ‘The noise…it was more than noise, it was more like a riot.

“To begin with, there were just a few people playing music in the back and it escalated. The neighbor’s windows were shaking, the noise was so bad.

“I would say there were at least 200 people. I have never seen the street so full. It’s usually quite peaceful.

Another resident said: ‘I have never seen anything like this in my life. It was pretty scary wondering if your windows would go through. They were even sitting on our car.

“We saw the owner this morning and he couldn’t apologize enough. He’s a nice guy. There have been no problems before.

Police are monitoring CCTV and have asked those at the party to come forward.

DC Chris Henderson said: ‘Not only did the revelers deceive the house owner, but the party got out of hand, they terrified local residents in their own homes and then reacted violently towards the police when they attempted to clean up the party.

“This behavior is simply unacceptable.”

An Airbnb spokeswoman said, “We have zero tolerance for this type of behavior, have removed the guest from our platform, and are providing the host with our full support.”

“There have been over half a billion guest arrivals on Airbnb and, with two million people staying on Airbnb every night, incidents like this are incredibly rare.”
