Airbnb makes it easy for apartment renters to stay

Potential tenants can now search for Airbnb-compatible apartment buildings whose policies allow part-time lodging.

The San Francisco-based colocation company announced on Wednesday that it has launched a platform to help tenants burdened by the high cost of living and “whose rental terms and building regulations have prevented them from hosting part-time.”

Airbnb now has a dedicated page to help potential tenants find and even contact over 175 apartment buildings in over 25 markets across the country, including Houston, Tex.; Phoenix, Arizona; and Jacksonville, Fla., Airbnb said. The company plans to add more cities in the coming months.

With the latest update, tenants can view details for each apartment, including its cost and floor plan. They can also get an estimate of the amount of money they could earn by hosting.

AIRBNB’S STRATEGY TO OVERCOME HIGH INFLATION AND ECONOMIC HEADWINDS

The apartments will remain the principal residence of the tenant. Each building will also have its own community rules for lodging, which “renters are expected to follow” in addition to Airbnb’s Community Standards, Airbnb said.

Airbnb said the update will, however, “allow more tenants to enjoy the economic benefits of home sharing.”

According to a survey commissioned by Airbnb, 41% of hosts said they use their rental income to cover higher living costs because of inflation.

Renters who previously rented in Airbnb-enabled apartment buildings said they could host an average of nine nights per month. They also earned an average of $900 per month, according to Airbnb.

“We believe cities can help renters better afford where they live by supporting Airbnb-compatible apartments and adopting policies that allow renters to share their space,” Airbnb said. in a blog post.

The move also marks the company’s latest effort to try to remove any barriers that may prevent people from signing up to host.

During an interview with FOX Business earlier this month, Airbnb co-founder Nate Blecharczyk said there were about 4 million hosts on the platform, but they had saw over 60 million people visit the accommodation page.

To help you, the platform tripled his insurance coverage and began offering free personalized advice to new hosts through a new system called Airbnb Setup.

Airbnb has also updated its platform to make total housing charges more transparent to deal with customer complaints about hidden charges when booking. It also improved the checkout process for customers.
