Airbnb opens overnight stays on tug Theodore TOO for the first time
Theodore TOO, the 65-foot replica of the 1990s animated television character’s tugboat, “Theodore Tugboat”, is now available for overnight guests through Airbnb for the first time.
Host Captain Noah helms the tug this summer from his current position in Hamilton, Ontario in Hamilton Harbor on Lake Ontario.
“Our crew is lucky enough to spend the summer cruising the Great Lakes aboard the friendliest tugboat in Canada, which is why I’m so excited for fans of Theodore TOO to have the chance to take part in his adventures. said Captain Noah. “As an Airbnb host, I look forward to showing you around Theodore TOO from bow to stern and port to starboard and taking you on your own Big Harbor adventure for one night.”
Since leaving his home in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Theodore TOO has become an attraction moored in Hamilton Harbour. Built in Daysprings, Nova Scotia in 2000, the 65-foot tug now serves as an ambassador for the marine industry and a guide to the Great Lakes.
Once on deck, guests will embark on a Hamilton Harbor cruise with some of Theodore TOO’s top crew, learning all about the bay. Also keep an eye on the weather for some of the ancient creatures rumored to lurk below the surface of the harbor.
The Captain and his crew will provide guests with a few square meals with local Hamilton dishes, supporting some of the small businesses that play such an important role in the city. Once the sun sets over the horizon, you can relax on deck for movie night under the stars, surrounded by the harbor and plenty of snacks.
Lay down in a comfortable cabin worthy of a harbor master, decorated with iconic Canadians and a nod to Theodore’s Halifax roots.
The Theodore was seen along the St. Clair River and in towns along the Lake Erie waterways during her 2021 summer tour. The tugboat was also a U.S. Coast Guard mascot in 2000 and once cruised the entire east coast to Florida and the Great Lakes to Chicago.
In honor of these stays, Airbnb will make a one-time donation to The Sunshine Foundation of Canada, a national charity that fulfills the dreams of children and youth living with severe physical disabilities. For 35 years now, Sunshine has created more than 8,800 life-changing experiences for children and youth across Canada and is a cause close to Theodore TOO’s heart.
The stay in Canada comes as Airbnb has introduced a new search method designed around Airbnb categories, making it easy to discover millions of unique homes in places you may never have known existed. With over 30,000 OMG! category stays around the world, many more unique stays are available this summer.
Guests will be able to book two individual one-night stays in September. September 10, 2022 and September 11, 2022, for only $22 CAD per night, a nod to Théodore TOO’s 22nd birthday. Aspiring team members can request to book this stay from Monday August 29 at 12 noon at airbnb.com/theodoretoo.
These two one-night stays for up to five people each are not a contest and the rate per night does not include taxes and fees. The guest boat cruise is subject to cancellation due to weather and other factors beyond Airbnb’s control.
