Airbnb.org Supports Flood Relief Efforts Across Western Europe

Europe: Airbnb.org has activated its emergency response program in Western Europe to help provide free housing to people affected by flooding in the regions.

Airbnb.org, which was founded in December 2020, is an independent non-profit organization focused on providing accommodation for those affected in times of crisis. The program allows new and existing hosts on Airbnb with listings or free space to opt in to have their rental listed for free to house someone in need.

The program works closely with other organizations around the world, including the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, International Rescue Committee, CARE, Mercy Corps, HIAS, and more.

Currently, the floods in Western Europe, notably in Belgium, Germany and the Netherlands, are the worst they have seen in recent years, causing heavy destruction in their wake. More than 180 people have been confirmed dead so far, with many still missing.

Airbnb.org has temporarily opened its emergency response program to flood-affected people until August 2.

Kristen Berlacher, Program Manager for Airbnb.org, said: “We are devastated by the scenes the destructive flooding has caused across Western Europe and our hearts go out to everyone affected. Through Airbnb.org’s Disaster Response Program, new and existing hosts on Airbnb can provide free temporary housing to people displaced by flooding.

“We are grateful for the generosity of the Airbnb hosting community, and we continue to coordinate closely with local government agencies and other nonprofit partners to help those in need. In addition to hosts, we We would also like to thank all the emergency responders who are working around the clock to deal with this extremely difficult and tragic situation,” she added.
