Airbnb unveils Scooby Doo, Queer Eye and Moulin Rouge stays

Far from just offering a place to sleep, Airbnb has recently launched special experiences where accommodation is a destination in itself. Rose Dykins Reporting

As its customers continue to seek quirky and unique places to stay, Airbnb added exciting new accommodation options themed around popular TV shows, movies, and cultural phenomena. This is in line with the introduction of Airbnb Categoriesto help users find amazing places to stay they didn’t know existed.

For example, Airbnb recently allowed guests to stay in the iconic Moulin Rouge in Paris Windmill. In a unique collaboration with Airbnb, the Moulin Rouge has unlocked a secret room inside its iconic red windmill, designed to bring the magic of the Belle Epoque to life.Available for three specific one-night stays in June (now sold out), the stunningly romantic accommodation has been listed on Airbnb for just €1 a night, with guests hosted by Moulin Rouge principal dancer turned Airbnb host Claudine Van Den Bergh.

Upon arrival at the Windmill, Airbnb guests are treated to a special evening timed to embrace Moulin Rouge cabaret culture. This includes meeting Van Den Bergh in his dressing room, on-stage photos with the Moulin Rouge cast, and a private behind-the-scenes tour of the iconic venue to meet its costume designers and learn about its history.

They are also served an aperitif on the windmill’s rooftop terrace, followed by a three-course dinner prepared by the Moulin Rouge’s resident chef (and breakfast will be served to them in the morning). Finally, they will have the best seats in the house for a performance of the Moulin Rouge show fairyland.

All design elements of the windmill’s interiors were selected by French historian Jean Claude-Yon, to authentically reflect the appearance of the space in the 18th century.

The opulent boudoir is furnished with Art Nouveau touches, including a glamorous dressing room with nods to the Belle Epoque vibe, such as vintage suits, fragrant perfumes and “effusive love letters from admirers” . Meanwhile, the private roof terrace is adorned with an ornate pagoda and garden furniture characteristic of the period.

Located in California’s Palm Desert, Berk’s cliffside property is called Casa Tierra (“earth house” in Spanish). It was available to Airbnb guests on specific dates in May and June for just $22 for a two-night stay as an introductory offer — and continues to be bookable through Airbnb. Berk also captured the process of renovating Casa Tierra and becoming an Airbnb host on his social media channels.

“Having visited Airbnb homes all over the world, I know exactly what I want as a guest,” says Berk. “With this in mind, I was able to draw on my passion for design and renovation to transform my Palm Desert home in a way that will delight future clients.”
