Al Michaels wasn’t a fan of the Rams PA announcer’s incessant ‘Whose House’ chant: ‘I hate it’

Al Michaels has delighted NFL fans so far this season in Amazon’s inaugural year of “Thursday Night Football” by being the exact opposite of delightful, and that continued in Los Angeles as the Raiders faced the Rams.

When the Rams did their usual pre-game chant “Whose House Rams Own!” before the game, Michaels took aim at the poor PA announcer with an absolutely incisive commentary on the Rams’ “home advantage.”

“You’ve got an AP announcer here who keeps yelling ‘dont house’. ‘I hate that,'” Michaels said on the show. Ram’s House”. But as far as the Raiders go, it’s kind of like their AirBnB.

Michaels is sort of right. After all, the Rams were practicing silent counts this week as they prepared for a strong presence in Las Vegas. Chargers face the same problem. Add to the already transplant-heavy population a Rams team that’s just not good this year, and you’ve got a fan base that probably won’t make it to Inglewood on a Thursday night.

If 2022 Al Michaels called the Miracle on Ice, he would exclusively mock the Soviets for losing to a team of brave kids (and that would be amazing).

The “Thursday Night Football” slate did him a disservice. Just because Amazon paid $1 billion a year doesn’t mean it has to get premium matches. Michaels learned this the hard way.

Before the Patriots-Bills game, Michaels was a little outspoken about Boston.com’s lineup.

β€œThe schedule was a little slippery with the Carolina-Atlanta game and a few other games we had, but now we’re positioned for a great run down the stretch,” he said.

Some of those other games have included laughs such as Colts vs. Broncos (which is nominated for Most Brutal Game of the Year), Commanders vs. Bears, and Falcons Panthers. And all of this against the backdrop of intensely condensed preparation for both teams involved, which has long been a sore point for those who have complained about ‘Thursday Night Football’ in the past.

Maybe Michaels likes his role as a grumpy old uncle. NFL fans certainly do. Next week, Michaels gets a pretty good game in the 49ers against Seahawks, which could have repercussions throughout the NFC West. After that, however, it will be Jaguars versus Jets. Maybe that’s where we’ll see another “whose house?” moment. But two things are certain: Michaels didn’t seem to enjoy his time in Los Angeles. And he definitely doesn’t believe SoFi is anyone’s home.
