Birmingham man recovers from drug addiction



SUBMIT A CHALLENGE. YOUR TIME IS NOW APPROACHING 538 AND THE STAGES OF ABUSE ARE RISING, BUT AN ORGANIZATION IS WORKING HARD TO HELP PEOPLE RECOVER THEIR TEENAGERS. PATSY DOUGLAS LIVES IN HAYDEN THIS MORNING AND I SEE YOU TALKING WITH A RECOVERING MAN, THANKS TO THOSE AT JIMMY HELM. ASSIGNMENT. YES, SARAH, LISTEN, THEY DEFINITELY DO THE WORK FOR MANY PEOPLE ACROSS CENTRAL ALABAMA. JASON JENKINS IS HIS NAME. HE HAS BEEN HERE AT THE SETUP FOR ABOUT THREE YEARS, BUT HIS BEFORE RECOVERY WAS NOT TOO GOOD. NOW, OF COURSE, HE IS STRUGGLING HIS IDEA, EDDIE CAUSING HIM TO BE ADDICTIVE TO METH AND HEROIN FOR MOST OF HIS ADULT LIFE, SOMETHING MANY OTHERS GO ON. RESEARCH SHOWS THAT PEOPLE AGED 18 TO 25 ARE THE MOST USERS OF THESE DRUGS. SINCE THE JIMMY HOWELL MISSION, HIS LIFE HAS CHANGED DRAMATICALLY. NOW TURNING HIS FOCUS ON HIS BELIEF IN EDUCATION. WAS RECENTLY ABLE TO GRADUATE WITH ASSOCIATES ON A DAY HE NEVER THOUGHT WILL COME. I sat there and cried for like, I don’t know, probably an hour, you know, just crying. NOT NOT REALIZING WHAT AWAY. I HAD ACTUALLY DID IT, YOU KNOW, TRYING TO CRY BECAUSE IT FELT LIKE MY DREAM WAS TO STUDY ASTROPHYSICS, ASTRONOMIC FOOD. AND I DON’T BELIEVE IT. I WAS PASSING BY. CARRY ON STUDIES. HE HAS NOW ACCEPTED THE PHYSICS PROGRAM AT THE UNIVERSITY OF ALABAMA AT HUNTSVILLE. HE IS ALSO A RESIDENT ASSISTANT, HOPEING TO BE A LIGHT FOR OTHER PEOPLE WHO DEAL WITH THE SAME PROBLEMS. AND JAMIE OUR MISSION AND THE CITY OF BIRMINGHAM THEY WILL BE HOSTING THESE WARMING STATIONS FROM THURSDAY AT 7PM SO MAKE SURE IF YOU KNOW ANYONE THEY WILL ARRIVE IN A HOT LOCATION THIS WEEK AS THESE TEMPERATURES DROP AND

Addiction is still on the rise, but Jimmie Hale Mission is working hard to help people recover. Client, Jason Jenkins has been at the facility for about two years now, but his life before his recovery was not easy. Since coming to the Jimmie Hale Mission, his life has changed dramatically. He is now focusing on his belief and his upbringing. Just recently, Jason Jenkins was able to get his associate’s degree. It’s a day he never thought would come. “I sat there and cried, not realizing how far I had come. Lord, I try not to cry. It was my dream to study physics. I can’t believe my dream come true. says Jenkins. Jenkins is continuing his studies. He is now accepted into the physics program at the University of Alabama in Huntsville. He is also a resident assistant and hopes to be a light for others struggling with those same issues. Now Jimmie Hale Mission and the City of Birmingham are opening warming stations this Thursday evening at 7:00 a.m. for many people who will be out in the cold this week as temperatures drop.
