CB2, Sister Brand To Crate & Barrel, arrives in Birmingham

BIRMINGHAM, MI – Home furnishings retailer CB2, which is a brand of Crate and Barrel Holdings, will open Michigan’s first store in Birmingham, according to a press release from the city.

The new furniture store will occupy the ground floor of the Maplewood building on the northeast corner of Maple Road and North Old Woodward Avenue in the heart of Birmingham city center, the statement said.

“We are seeing major interest in Birmingham from the home furnishings industry,” said Executive Director Sean Kammer. “Birmingham is rapidly becoming the regional hub for this industry. “CB2 coming to Birmingham is an exciting development. ”

Construction on the 7,500-square-foot store has started and is expected to be completed in the fall of 2022, Kammer said. Plans for the Maplewood building also include moving the corporate headquarters to the upper floors of the building.

With the development of the CB2 store, Bakehouse 46 will be moved from its current location at 136 North Old Woodward Avenue to 250 West Maple Road, the statement said.

“Retaining Bakehouse 46 was a top priority,” Kammer said. “Maintaining a balance between small businesses and national anchors is essential to ensure that Birmingham city center remains economically resilient, diverse and attractive to all residents of the region. “

Crate and Barrel Holdings is a member of the Otto Group with more than 100 stores and franchise partners in 9 countries, and is a destination for contemporary and modern furniture, housewares and decor, according to its company’s website.

The CB2 brand has 23 international branches in some of the trendiest city centers including Chicago, New York, Los Angeles, Washington DC and Toronto.
