During the height of the pandemic and lockdowns, many of us dreamed of flying away to a distant land full of sun, sea and warm temperatures. But now that we can travel again without too many restrictions, our bank accounts apparently don’t have the memo that we have two years of vacation to catch up on – rude.
With the Cost of life in times of crisis, it has become much more difficult to budget for an epic vacation. But the good news is that The Post Office has conducted new research for its Annual Report to reveal the cheapest holiday destinations for 2022.
The cheap vacation data was based on eight tourism needs: the cost of a three-course dinner for two with wine, a cup of coffee, a bottle of beer, a Coca-Cola, a glass of wine, a large bottle of water, sunscreen and insect repellent. Average prices were collected from tourist boards and tour operators, and compared from 36 destinations around the world to find the most affordable options.
So without further ado, these are the best cheap vacations of the moment…
Cheap and affordable holidays
Marmaris, Turkey
According to the Post’s report, you’d only need £26.13 for your eight holiday essentials if you’re traveling to Marmaris in Turkey, making it the most affordable when it comes to the aforementioned items.
Sunny Beach, Bulgaria
Sunny Beach in Bulgaria topped the cheap holiday list last year, but fell down a spot in 2022. It was beaten to the top spot by just 18 pence!
Algarve, Portugal
Third place is the Algarve, which jumps almost £20 for the cost of all eight items, to £44.39.
Cape Town, South Africa
In Cape Town, the eight essentials would cost you an average of £53.23, making Cape Town the best value long-haul destination.
Paphos, Cyprus
Getting all eight items from the post on your trip to Paphos would cost an average of £56.44. That’s a price drop of more than 15% year over year.
Costa del Sol, Spain
You would need £59.56 to cover the costs for two on the Costa del Sol.
Mombasa, Kenya
£61.30 will pretty much cover your basic needs while on holiday in Mombasa, Kenya.
Funchal, Madeira
The eight Madeira holiday essentials will set you back around £64.05.
Sliema, Malta
Sliema first entered the list in 2020 and has remained there ever since. The items needed cost around £65.35.
Orlando, United States
You might be surprised to see Orlando on the list, but it turns out a three-course dinner for two with wine, a cup of coffee, a bottle of beer, a Coca-Cola, a glass of wine , a large bottle of water, sunscreen and insect repellent will set you back £67.01.
Prague, Czech Republic
It will cost you an average of £67.09 to get your hands on holiday essentials in Prague, around £6 more than in 2019.
Lanzarote, Canary Islands
Necessities will cost you £71.13 in the Canary Islands.
Grand Bay, Mauritius
