CityWalk skate park in Birmingham will host the grand opening

CityWalk developers BHAM will hold an official groundbreaking ceremony this afternoon for the project’s skate park.

The skate park officially opened on June 21 to allow public access to the facility ahead of the World Games. But an official dedication and welcome ceremony to honor the world-class facility has been in the works for months.

CityWalk BHAM is the huge park and green space under the I-59/20 bridge in downtown Birmingham between 15th Street North and 25th Street North. The project opened to the public this summer. The 10-block, 31-acre development includes green space behind the Birmingham Museum of Art and the Boutwell Auditorium, as well as a mix of special features including green space, playgrounds, public art and an area performance. A four-block portion of CityWalk BHAM hosted The World Games Plaza, the center of action for the World Games.
