Construction company owner charged with robbery in Amsterdam

AMSTERDAM, NY (NEWS10) – The Amsterdam Police Department says the owner of a construction company has been arrested following a fraud complaint. Laurie Murray, 52, of St. Johnsville, owns Mohawk Valley Builders and was arrested June 6.

On Monday, Amsterdam police were told that Murray was being held at the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office on a warrant for a Mayfield fraud complaint. She allegedly took money from a landlord to do some construction work, but she didn’t do any work and didn’t return the money.

Amsterdam police discovered that a property owner in the city of Amsterdam recently filed a similar complaint in which funds were paid to Murray to carry out construction work in August 2021. As of May 2022, no work had been made by Murray, the contract was canceled and no money was refunded.

Murray was transported to the Amsterdam Police Department where she was questioned by detectives. Police said she made an admission of guilt detailing a pattern of wrongdoing in her business dealings.

Charges

  • Third degree grand larceny (felony)
  • Second degree regime for fraud (misdemeanor)

Murray was arraigned in Amsterdam City Court and released on an appearance ticket to appear at a later date. Police said the investigation is ongoing and additional charges are possible.

Murray was also arrested by the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office on June 6. She and Harvey Martz II, 47, are charged with abandoning dogs, cats and goats on Fulton County property for a year.
