Courtney Winfield-Hill describes prospect of playing for England as ‘cool’ ahead of cup final

COURTNEY Winfield-Hill may seem like a just dinkum Aussie, but at the World Cup she wants to be a pure Pom.

The Leeds star has declared his availability for his wife Lauren’s homeland and is part of the training squad ahead of the tournament which could see her face his hometown Jillaroos.

And she intends to go all the way in passing the British citizenship test – although there is one thing that will never change, Tim-Tam biscuits are superior.

The 35-year-old, who married England cricketer Lauren after meeting when they were team-mates at the Women’s Big Bash Down Under, said: “Courtney Winfield-Hill, a member of the England squad , looks really cool.

“With the fancy two-pronged surname, it sounds very English, doesn’t it? More than sounding really cool, it’s really cool.

“The accent wasn’t mentioned too much in a team meeting, but I need to work on it a bit. I just need to know which one it will be.

“And once that happens, I will absolutely apply for citizenship. When that happens, I’ll put my head in a book and do my history lessons – that would be special.

Ahead of England and the World Cup, the Leeds women are tasked with winning the Challenge Cup today in their hometown’s Elland Road cathedral against St Helens.

And although she is a relatively newcomer, she knows what it means to go out adding: “I have only lived here for five years, but I certainly know how special Elland Road is for Leeds.

“I can only imagine what it feels like to play here for our Leeds people, especially Leeds United fans.

“Our coach, Lois Forsell, is the main one – she always talks about it. Take my excitement, ramp it up and it’s probably them.
