Dale Hossfield missing after boat ran ashore

The Coast Guard, FWC and the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office are all searching for a missing man whose boat ran aground at Melbourne Beach. Katherine Bond arrived at her Airbnb in Melbourne Beach on Wednesday evening for an unexpected show. “There was a boat here right behind the house on the sand and there was a sheriff’s helicopter just a house down,” Bond said. Bond said the 29ft boat was beached on the sand and a sheriff’s helicopter and several deputies were also on the beach. According to the Coast Guard and Indian River County Sheriff’s Office, the boat belonged to 68-year-old Dale Hossfield. and was last seen exiting the entrance around 2 p.m. At one point, a concerned relative reported her missing. His boat was reported to the Coast Guard around 5.45pm on Wednesday, beached at Melbourne Beach with the motor. still running but no sign of Hossfield. Bond said it took the sheriff’s office several hours Wednesday night to get the boat off the ground. At first the rope broke and came back in the air,” Bond said. Bond said they eventually managed to tow the boat away from shore. the coastline where Hossfield’s boat was found in hopes of finding the missing man. They say they will continue as long as weather and visibility allow. “Our thoughts are with the family and the missing person and we look forward to their safe recovery,” Bond said.

“There was a boat here right behind the house on the sand and there was a sheriff’s helicopter just a house down,” Bond said.

Bond said the 29ft boat was beached on the sand and a sheriff’s helicopter and several deputies were also on the beach.

“The deputies were here sort of watching the boat, and later that evening a tug came to take it away,” Bond said.

According to the Coast Guard and the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office, the boat belonged to 68-year-old Dale Hossfield.

Investigators said Hossfield was last seen getting out of his storage boat at Ft. Pierce on Wednesday morning and was last seen getting out of the inlet around 2 p.m.

At one point, a concerned relative reported her missing.

His boat was reported to the Coast Guard around 5.45pm on Wednesday, beached at Melbourne Beach with the engine still running but no sign of Hossfield.

Bond said it took the sheriff’s office several hours Wednesday night to get the boat off the ground.

“A deputy had to swim twice to the tow boat to try and get them the rope. At first the rope broke and flew back,” Bond said.

Bond said they eventually managed to tow the boat away from shore.

Throughout Thursday, the Coast Guard, FWC and the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office searched the shore where Hossfield’s boat was found in hopes of locating the missing man.

They say they will continue as long as weather and visibility allow.

“Our thoughts are with the family and the missing person and we look forward to their safe recovery,” Bond said.
