Dramatic video shows brave cops chasing gunman down Birmingham Street
According to West Midlands Police, the officers in question were patrolling in an unmarked car near the city’s hospital on February 1, 2021, when a black VW Polo crossed their path.
The vehicle made them suspicious and after doing some quick checks of the police systems, activated their blue lights for it to stop.
But as the driver pulled over, a passenger fled the car.
Johniel Barrett, 19, was the runner but he didn’t get far as officers chased him down nearby James Turner Street where he was pinned to the ground.
The cops spotted the handle of an old revolver sticking out of his belt.
When they asked the suspect if he was charged, Barrett replied, “Yes.”
Investigation identified the weapon as a Webley Mark VI revolver loaded with a .44 Smith and Wesson cartridge.

Barrett, now 20, of Kilby Avenue in Ladywood, later admitted to owning a gun and ammunition.
He was jailed for five years at Birmingham Crown Court on December 19.
The investigating officer, Detective Constable Steve Harris, said: ‘The officers have shown great courage. They saw Barrett holding something near his belt that they suspected was a gun, but sued anyway to protect the public.
“Barrett was running to a school and officers were determined to get to him before he posed a risk to someone else.
“They were equipped with tasers and challenged Barrett, ordering him to the ground, when they discovered their suspicions were based on the weapon,” he continued.
“It’s another lethal weapon on the streets and a young man is now paying a heavy price for his involvement in illegal firearms.”
