Fairy Garden Trail returns to Davey Dogwood Park

January 17 – The Fairy Garden Trail will make its fifth appearance at Davey Dogwood Park this spring. Visit Palestine announced on Friday that registrations are open for the 2023 edition of the Fairy Garden Trail and Mary Raum, Head of Tourism and Marketing in Palestine, has set ambitious goals for the grassroots community project.

“This has been a community project since day one, when I asked my friends on Facebook if they would be interested in helping out,” Raum said. “Five years later, we set a goal to ask the community to build 100 fairy gardens to welcome visitors to Palestine for the 85th Celebration of the Texas Dogwood Trails.”

Along with the 5.5 miles of driving trails that offer incredible views, an ADA-accessible paved trail is available for everyone. An unpaved hiking portion of the trail is also available with a gradual incline and descent looping back to the trail entrance. The hiking portion of the trail is also accessible to scooters and strollers.

“Visitors can follow the signs to the pavilion in the heart of the park,” Raum said. “The Fairy Garden Trail will be northeast of the clubhouse and restrooms.”

The Fairy Garden Trail is a community project that helps transform part of Davey Dogwood Park into a magical trail for locals and visitors. Participation is free, but guidelines and rules are in place to keep the trail as natural as possible.

After completing an online registration form, participants will have a plot for the 2023 Fairy Garden Trail. Project organizers will contact participants with assigned plots on March 8. Installation dates will be March 10-16.

A free fairy workshop will be scheduled on March 14, which is also the registration deadline.

Judging will be complete between March 17-19, and winners will be notified via email and social media by March 25.

This year’s awards are sponsored by PennyLynn Webb, editor of the Palestine Herald Press, with first place receiving $100, second place $75 and third place $50. Participants can register and view the rules and guidelines at www.visitpalestine.com/fairygardens.
