Family of woman shot outside New Castle Walmart speaks out – WPXI

NEW CASTLE, Pa. — Melissa Spring, a 43-year-old mother of two in Grove City, is hospitalized after she was shot in the Union Township Walmart parking lot on Sunday. State police said the incident happened just after 4 p.m.

The victim’s son said his mother was randomly shot while shopping on Super Bowl Sunday in broad daylight. The family want answers as police search for the shooter.

The son told Channel 11 that Spring had been shot in the stomach and was rushed to hospital in critical condition.

“It was pretty terrifying. I still don’t know what to think,” he said.

The victim’s son said his mother was still fighting for her life even after having surgery this morning. She is still in critical condition but he said she should live.

“She’s a great mom and a great grandmother too. She’s a good person. It’s just crazy what happened to her,” he said.

The son said his family was in shock. They believe the shooting was random, which concerns many buyers we spoke with on Monday.

“What is scary is chance. It could happen to any of us and the fact that it is in a public place like this,” said Tom Hutchison.

Tom Hutchison couldn’t believe it happened on Super Bowl Sunday outside the same supermarket where he and his wife still shop.

“We were really surprised. It just doesn’t happen here,” Hutchison said.

State police are currently investigating the shooting. If anyone has any information, call New Castle State Police.
