Fat Bear Week 2021 results have arrived & the gains are amazing (PHOTOS)
Fall allows us to warm up and prepare for winter, we take naps, watch Netflix, and eat our favorite foods. Turns out, we’re not the only ones giving in to our fall trends. The North American bear population is preparing for hibernation and is preparing by getting a little fat. The results of Fat Bear Week 2021 have arrived and you need to take a look.
Now let’s start with a bit of background, why are these bears stuffing themselves? In case you didn’t know, bears hibernate during the winter, which means they endure months of starvation where they can lose up to a third of their body weight. If they don’t store enough fat reserves before entering their winter den, they could die. So be thankful that you can order your favorite comfort foods anytime you want.

Bears across North America have foraged throughout the summer months and reach high levels as winter approaches. So while you can see mass bear photos from across the continent, the official Fat Bear Week judges are judging bears in Alaska’s Brooks River in Katmai National Park. And if you’re wondering, the results were selected by people like us through an online voting system.
This year’s winner was the 480 Bear aka Otis. His transformation was truly amazing, he went from a lean to really stocky figure. Its runner-up was Bear 151 aka Walker, who also looks perfectly plush these days. Now the two bears can enjoy a long nap while burning all that tasty salmon before waking up to start over next year.
You can learn more about Otis by watching the video above and check out the rest of the bears from Fat Bear Week by clicking here.
