The low-cost airline, known for charging fees for seat assignments and larger-than-allowed carry-on bags, has deactivated its customer service phone number, opting to have all interactions done digitally, CNN reported.

The change went into effect last week.

Instead of dialing a number to reach someone at Frontier, customers will need to contact the company via an online chatbot, social media or WhatsApp.

If someone needs to speak to a person, it can be done via the company’s 24/7 chat tool, CNN reported.

A company spokesperson said most customers prefer to communicate digitally as “quickly and efficiently as possible”.

If someone calls the old customer service number, they get a message that says, “At Frontier, we offer the lowest fares in the industry by operating our airline as efficiently as possible. We want our customers to be able to operate efficiently too, that’s why we make it easy to find what you need on Flyfrontier.com or our mobile app,” CNBC reported.

Frontier’s competitors, Spirit Airlines and Allegiant Airlines, continue to have customer service call centers with live operators, CNN reported.
