George Harrison’s childhood home is officially live on Airbnb

The terraced house at 25 Upton Green in Speke, Liverpool, is quite indescribable. It has three bedrooms and just one bathroom, but the new Airbnb property is listed at £200 a night (about $257). This is not due to the grandiose character of the house, but rather to those who lived there.

From 1950 to 1962, the townhouse in question was not owned by fellow Beatles legend George Harrison – or, more specifically, Harrison’s family, as 25 Upton Green was his childhood home. Later it would also become a rehearsal spot for Harrison, Paul McCartney and John Lennon as The Quarrymen and then eventually for the Beatles as well. And now, thanks to a man from New Hampshire, you really can stay there.

After placing a bid in an online auction, Ken Lambert – who is, according to a report by The Portsmouth Herald, “just a normal person” with a family and a mortgage – bought the house for £171,000 (about $223,000) last November. Since then, Lambert has been preparing the property to be listed on Airbnb so other Beatles fans can share in the splendour.

“Beatles and George Harrison superfans!” the SEO bed. “There’s plenty in Liverpool to help you discover the Beatles, but nothing quite like it.”

According to the Omega’s Auction website, the Harrisons lived in the house from when she was six until she was 12. After moving in 1962, it was bought by another family who stayed for 40 years. In 2014 the house was resold and was rented out to regular tenants, but – unlike the childhood homes of Lennon and McCartney, which are National Trust-owned public attractions in the UK – it went relatively unnoticed until ‘now.

“What’s funny about it is I’m trying to open up George’s house to the fans a bit,” Lambert said. the herald. “It was not available at all before.”

In an effort to keep things as historically accurate as possible, Lambert, in partnership with a property manager, drew inspiration from a number of old photographs and found period furniture and decor. In the living room, where the Fab Four would have practiced, he also added a record player and an acoustic guitar.

“I wanted to do it for myself, play guitar and play the Beatles in the room where the Beatles played guitar,” Lambert said. “It’s a really cool thing for people to experience.”
