Glasgow couple set up Airbnb in historic city center

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (WBKO) – Mike and Beth Wagner have partnered with Sunbelt Construction of Bowling Green to build an Airbnb loft in Glasgow’s historic downtown plaza.

“My husband and I have often been to other cities, looked around, seen the neat little things other cities are doing and thought, why isn’t Glasgow doing this?” said Beth Wagner.

The loft sits at the top of Spring Valley Boutique across from several stores and the Plaza Theater.

It mixes modern amenities with a historic atmosphere, ensuring an “old Kentucky home” feel.

“It was a nice place to have this opportunity to build,” said Mike Wagner. “We were attracted by the location across from the Plaza and the things happening in the square.”

“I’m also from Glasgow so I have a connection here,” said Sunbelt’s Quentin Littrell when explaining why Sunbelt chose the project. “It was a great project for us. The Wagners have invited us to help them.

The project did not go without problems, however, with the Wagners and Littrells lamenting problems obtaining construction materials.

“We had to pull back and regroup at several points because the materials weren’t available,” said Mike Wagner. “Thanks to Sunbelt helping us solve these problems, we ended up with a successful project.”

While Mike Wagner couldn’t choose a single spot to label as his favorite, his wife loves the balcony.

“You can sit at night on the balcony with the fire pit, play games with the kids, see the lights when the city is lit up.” she says. “It’s a fun place.”

All three parties agreed that Glasgow is going through ‘something of a renaissance’, boasting about new music and the opportunities in the city.

All also pointed to Glasgow’s proximity to some of Kentucky’s hottest tourist sites, such as Mammoth Cave, the Corvette Museum and the Bourbon Trail.

“We have so much to offer,” said Mike Wagner. “It’s just a great stopping point.”

The Airbnbdubbed the “Balcony on Broadway,” is currently available for $200 a night.
