THIS GRAFFITI BY A GROUP NAMED PATRIOT FRONT WVTM 13 MATTIE DAVIS JOINING US LIVE IN BIRMINGHAM TONIGHT. AND THIS IS REALLY ALARMING TO SOME IN THE COMMUNITY. YEAH, IN A BEAVERTON 13 VIEWER CALL TO LET US KNOW THE MAIL ON THE MOUNTAIN. ACROSS THE EXPRESS TRACK HERE BEHIND ME YOU CAN SEE IT ON YOUR RIGHT IF YOU ARE HEADING INTO BIRMINGHAM CITY CENTRE. BUT IT’S CLEARLY VISIBLE, BOTH DIRECTIONS. THE IDEAS OF THIS PATRIOT FRONT GROUP, SOMETHING THE CITY OF BIRMINGHAM SAYS THEY WILL NOT TOLERATE. RECOVER AMERICA DISPLAYED ON RED MOUNTAIN. ERIC HOME IN BIRMINGHAM. BLACK LIVES MATTER FINDS THIS EXTREMELY DISTURBING. IT’S NOT JUST GRAFFITI, IT’S HATE. THIS IS A MESSAGE OF HATE. AND IT WAS PLACED IN A VERY INTENTIONAL PLACE. PAUL SAYS THE PATRIOT FRONT GROUP IS ROOTED IN WHITE SUPREMACY. THE MISSION, ACCORDING TO THEIR WEBSITE, IS, QUOTE, RETURN TO THE TRADITIONS AND VIRTUES OF OUR FORMER. THIS IS NOT AT ALL PATRIOTIC. IN FACT, I FIND IT A SHAME. LAST SUMMER THE GROUP MARKED VARIOUS AREAS IN BIRMINGHAM COUNCIL FOR THE TANYA TATE WORKED TO COVER IT. WE WILL NOT TOLERATE ANY LANGUAGE OF HATE OR RACISM. THE RETURN OF THE COURIER IS NOT TAKEN LIGHTLY. WE DEFINITELY DO NOT WANT TO CONTINUE FOR INDIVIDUALS TO ENTER THIS TOWN TO DRIVE THE RACIAL DIVISION OF THE RACE. PAUL SAYS EVERY SECOND IT HAPPENED. New graffiti has appeared on Red Mountain Expressway promoting the “Patriot Front”, a group the Southern Poverty Law Center calls a designated hate group. The painting says “Reclaim America”, a call to action by the group to “return to the traditions and virtues of our ancestors”. Eric Hall of Birmingham Black Lives Matter finds the message extremely alarming. “It’s not just graffiti.” said Hall. “It’s hate. It’s a message of hate. And, it was placed in a very intentional place.” Last summer, the group marked various areas of Birmingham. Councilwoman LaTonya Tate worked to cover up the messages. “I really want to send this message to those who seem to keep coming to town and doing it that we won’t.” tolerate it,” Tate told WVTM 13. The City of Birmingham said the area where the graffiti is on the Red Mountain Freeway is maintained by the Alabama Department of Transportation, which looks after it.
