A HISTORIC 14th century castle said to have been visited by Mary Queen of Scots has gone up for sale for £800,000.

The Grade 1 listed house with 10 acres of land, Hayton Castle, located near Aspatria, offers the possibility of ‘idyllic rural living’.

During the English Civil War the castle suffered considerable damage and had to be rebuilt, which saw the premises extended in the 16th and 17th centuries and converted into a residence – now comprising six multi-purpose bedrooms.
